Morton Hospital to Offer Free Prostate Screening

Posted on 09/19/2011

Morton Hospital  will host a free prostate screening on Tuesday, September 27 from 5:30 p.m. – 7 p.m. in the hospital’s Day Surgery Unit.

The screening is free and open to the public; however, pre-registration is required, as space is limited and on a first-come, first-served basis. Morton Hospital urologists will conduct the screenings, which consist of a PSA blood test and a digital rectal exam.

According to the American Cancer Society, prostate cancer is the most common cancer in American men. It is estimated that about one in six men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer during his lifetime; however, early detection is effective in preventing the disease. It is recommended that men ages 50 and older, as well as those with a family history of prostate cancer, receive an annual screening.

For more information, or to register for this screening, please call Morton Hospital’s Health Services Referral Line at (508) 828-7777.
