Emergency Department

Our New Emergency Department Opens October 1!

Important information for our patients and visitors:

  • On Thursday, October 1, our new Emergency Department will officially open to incoming patients at approximately 4 a.m. 
  • The new Emergency Department is located to the left of the main hospital entrance. Patients can access the Emergency Department from outside, or through the main hospital lobby.
  • On the morning of October 1, there will be signage and staff in place to help direct patients seeking emergency care to the correct location.

    Facts about our New Emergency Department 
  • 41,000 square feet
  • 43 treatment rooms (including 25 general treatment rooms, 8 fast track rooms, 7 specialized rooms for behavioral health patients and 1 trauma room with two bays)
  • New imaging technology, including CT and X-Ray
  • New, private "Ambulance Only" entrance
  • Larger, more comfortable waiting room for our patients and families
  • A new level of comfort and care

Emergency Care at Morton Hospital

From bumps and bruises to critical care, the Morton Hospital Emergency Department has you covered 24/7. Each year, more than 51,000 patients are seen in the Emergency Department, which is staffed by physicians, physician assistants, nurse practitioners, nurses,  and other health professionals who are all highly trained and dedicated to treating patients in the emergency setting.

We offer:  

  • Short wait times
  • Express Med services for non-urgent illnesses and injuries
  • 24/7 access to adult and pediatric specialists
  • Award-winning stroke care (and designation as a Primary Stroke Center by the Department of Public Health)
  • Partnership with a leading Boston hospital for trauma care    

Express Med

Morton Hospital understands that when you or a loved one is in need of medical attention, it is very important that you receive quality care as quickly as possible. It is our goal to keep patient waiting times as low as possible. As a part of this effort, we offer Express Med services from 8 a.m. to 12:30 a.m., daily. Express Med is designed to provide care for non-urgent illnesses and injuries. It is located next to Morton’s Emergency Department, and treats such health issues as:

  • Sore throats
  • Simple cuts
  • Sprains
  • Minor fractures
  • Earaches
