Mammography, which is used for early detection of breast cancer, can
detect lumps and tumors long before they can be felt during a physical
or breast self-examination.
Mammograms are simple, low-dose X-ray procedures, and in conjunction with a breast exam, can detect tumors at their earliest stages. Caught early enough, breast cancer can be treated effectively with a variety of options.
Morton Hospital's fully-accredited and licensed mammography services
feature the most advanced equipment in the area. Mammography units are
fully accredited by the American College of Radiology, certified by the
U.S. Department of Health and Human Services and licensed by the
Massachusetts Department of Public Health. All mammograms are
administered by licensed, female mammography technologists and reviewed
by board-certified radiologists.
Women who visit the our Women's Imaging Center during regular business hours can request the preliminary results of their mammograms before they leave. This takes a few extra minutes after the exam. The final results are forwarded to the patient's primary care physician, and a letter is sent to the patient's home explaining the results of the examination.
