About the Center
The Speech, Hearing, and Language Center is accredited by the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association, signifying its voluntary adherence to stringent standards of excellence and its commitment to quality patient care.

We offer a highly trained staff of Speech-Language pathologists and audiologists, who are certified by the America Speech-Language-Hearing Association and possess a master's degree in speech-language pathology or audiology and are licensed by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.

Support staff, consisting of communication assistants and aides, provides supplemental treatment.

Audiology
Diagnostic Audiology Evaluation to assess hearing sensitivity, speech reception levels and speech discrimination to determine presence and severity of hearing loss. Specifically designed procedures are used to identify hearing loss in children from 6 months to age three.

Assessment of Middle Ear Function
Assessment of the Middle Ear Function: (Acoustic Immittance/Tympanometry) to detect abnormalities caused by Eustachian tube dysfunction, fluid, infection, eardrum perforations, etc.

The Hearing Aid Program sells hearing aids utilizing computerized technology. The hearing aid package includes: hearing aids, orientation, hearing aid testing and one year of follow up visits.

Auditory Brainstem Response Testing to evaluate hearing sensitivity in infants (birth to 6 months) and difficult-to-test clients. Also used to rule out neurological problems, such as lesions or tumors of the eighth cranial nerve and brainstem.

Central Auditory Processing Evaluations for children who may have normal speech and hearing acuity, but have difficulty processing information presented auditorally.

What is the pediatric language group Intervention Program?
The pediatric language group intervention program provides language stimulation and facilitation with special emphasis on experiential (hands on) approach for the child. Consultation as necessary by occupational and physical therapists is provided. The language groups meet 2 to 3 times per week for 2-2 1/2 hour sessions. There are approximately 3-7 children per group.

Who would be appropriate for the language group?
Children who are between the ages of 2 and 6 years of age who have cognitive skills necessary for language learning and have been diagnosed with a speech and language delay or disorder.

What is a swallowing problem?
With a normal swallow, foods and liquids move efficiently and safely from the mouth to the stomach. The mouth, throat, larynx (voice box) and esophagus (tube from the throat to the stomach) are all involved. Difficulty with foods or liquids in any of these areas may result in a swallowing problem, often called Dysphagia.
