Morton Hospital will host a free American Cancer Society Freshstart® Smoking Cessation Series beginning on Wednesday, September 4.  The program will consist of four 1-hour sessions held on September 4, September 11, September 18 and September 25.  Sessions will run from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. in the hospital’s Cafeteria Annex.

According to the American Cancer Society, the Freshstart program provides straightforward and practical information and strategies to help smokers quit smoking and stay smoke free.  The group will be mentored by a trained smoking cessation program facilitator, and topics will include: Understanding Why You Have an Addiction and How to Quit, Mastering the First Few Days, Mastering Obstacles, and Staying Quit and Enjoying It Forever.

The Freshstart program is one of many programs and initiatives at Morton Hospital aimed at reducing the incidence of smoking and smoking-related diseases in the greater Taunton region.  Morton Hospital implemented a 100 percent smoke- and tobacco-free campus policy in April of 2012 and continues to provide smoking cessation programs and resources on an ongoing basis.

This program is free and open to the public; however, pre-registration is required, as space is limited and on a first-come, first-served basis. For more information, or to reserve your space, please call (508) 828-7777.
