Morton Hospital Earns 5th Consecutive “A” Grade for Patient Safety

Wednesday, May 14, 2014

Morton Hospital has been honored for the fifth consecutive time with an “A” Hospital Safety Score by The Leapfrog Group.  This was announced in the Spring 2014 update to the Hospital Safety Score, which assigns U.S. hospitals an A, B, C, D, or F based on how well they protect patients from accidents, errors, injuries and infections.

According to Kim Bassett, RN, BSN, MBA, Morton Hospital president, the recognition by Leapfrog reflects the ongoing commitment of Morton Hospital and Steward Health Care to provide high quality care in the communities where their patients live.

“It is an honor to be recognized with our fifth Grade ‘A’ from The Leapfrog Group,” said Bassett. “This achievement, along with our ‘Top Hospital’ award, shows that our physicians, nurses and support staff work hard every day to provide excellent care for our patients and families.  Patient safety is always our top priority, and it is extremely gratifying when our efforts are recognized at this level.”

She added, “We are continuously making investments in our facility to best meet the needs of our patients and families.  From recruiting new primary care physician and specialists to investing in technology and equipment upgrades, our goal is to give our patients the best possible health care experience.”

Calculated under the guidance of The Leapfrog Group’s nine-member Blue Ribbon Expert Panel, the Hospital Safety Score uses 26 measures of publicly available hospital safety data to produce a single score representing a hospital’s overall capacity to keep patients safe from infections, injuries, and medical and medication errors.
