Today, Steward Health Care System (Steward) announced the appointment of Deborah Bitsoli as the new President of Morton Hospital in Taunton, effective December 14, 2015. An experienced health care executive who has extensive experience in Massachusetts, Ms. Bitsoli most recently served as the chief operating officer of St. Vincent Hospital in Worcester.

“We are delighted that Deborah Bitsoli will be assuming the top leadership position at Morton Hospital,” said Mark Girard, MD, president of Steward hospital group. “She brings excellent experience and perspective on operating successful community hospitals in this new healthcare environment.”

comprehensive inpatient, outpatient and 24/7 emergency services to Taunton and the communities of southeastern Massachusetts. The hospital's strengths include cancer care, diabetes care, imaging services, maternity care, orthopedics, rehabilitation services, surgery and wound healing. Morton Hospital is routinely recognized for medical excellence and was named a back-to-back Top Hospital for quality and patient safety by the Leapfrog Group in 2013 and 2014.

In September, Morton Hospital opened a new, state-of-the-art $25 million Emergency Department (ED), which was the largest investment at Morton since Steward acquired the hospital in October 2011 and one of the largest projects ever completed in the Steward system. The new ED is twice the size of the hospital’s former Emergency Department with 43 private treatment rooms, including 25 general treatment rooms, eight express care rooms, seven specialized behavioral health rooms, a trauma room with two bays and a decontamination room. The expansion also includes a new Imaging Suite with the latest in MRI, CT and X-ray equipment.

“I am delighted to join the Steward system and assume this important leadership role at Morton Hospital,” said Deborah Bitsoli, CPA, MBA. “Morton Hospital provides excellent care to patients and it is an invaluable resource for Taunton and the surrounding communities.”

Ms. Bitsoli brings more than 25 years of health care experience to Morton Hospital, which includes overseeing hospital operations to improve patient and employee satisfaction and managing multi-specialty physician practices. At St. Vincent Hospital, Ms. Bitsoli led efforts to expand service lines, improve patient experience, and build strong partnerships with local community leaders. She previously served in senior leadership roles at MetroWest Medical Center, Cambridge Hospital, Cambridge Health Alliance and Harvard Vanguard Medical Associates. Ms. Bitsoli earned a B.S. from Bentley College and a M.B.A. from Babson College.

Ms. Bitsoli will take over the reins of Morton Hospital as Kim Bassett, RN, BSN, MBA serves at president of nearby Steward Norwood Hospital. Ms. Bassett has been serving as president of both hospitals in an interim capacity for the past six months.

“Morton Hospital has experienced a remarkable turnaround in recent years under the steady leadership of Kim Bassett,” explained Girard. “I feel confident that the hospital is positioned for additional success in the years to come under Deborah Bitsoli’s leadership.
