Morton Hospital Earns Joint Commission Gold Seal of Approval

Morton Hospital has earned The Joint Commission’s Gold Seal of Approval® for its hospital program and behavioral health opioid treatment program by demonstrating continuous compliance with its performance standards. The Gold Seal is a symbol of quality that reflects a health care organization’s commitment to providing safe and quality patient care.

Morton Hospital underwent a rigorous, unannounced onsite review in September 2022. During the visit, a team of Joint Commission reviewers evaluated compliance with hospital accreditation standards spanning several areas including infection prevention and control, environment of care, emergency management and medication management. This full hospital survey was followed by a separate survey in October 2022 for the hospital’s behavioral health opioid treatment program, also known as Morton’s Comprehensive Addiction Program (MORCAP), which opened in November of 2021.

“Morton Hospital is proud to have earned these back-to-back accreditations from The Joint Commission,” said Morton Hospital President Heidi Taylor. “Staff and providers from across our organization work together every day to ensure we continue to meet the highest standards of patient care. We’re grateful to every member of our team for their tremendous efforts and ongoing dedication to providing safe, quality care to patients and families in our community.”

The Joint Commission’s standards are developed in consultation with health care experts and providers, measurement experts and patients. They are informed by scientific literature and expert consensus to help health care organizations measure, assess and improve performance. The surveyors also conducted onsite observations and interviews.

“As a private accreditor, The Joint Commission surveys health care organizations to protect the public by identifying deficiencies in care and working with those organizations to correct them as quickly and sustainably as possible,” says Mark Pelletier, RN, MS, chief operating officer, Accreditation and Certification Operations, and chief nursing executive, The Joint Commission. “We commend Morton Hospital for its continuous quality improvement efforts in patient safety and quality of care.”
